A celebration of Irish culture and all things green unfolds Saturday afternoon and evening with traditional music, hearty foods and celebration. This year, Downtown Wichita Falls Development is excited to present the Old 97’s! Known as one of the most enduring bands in alternative country-rock, they recently released Most Messed Up in April. Their raucous songs exemplify this fun, indulgent band that doesn’t let “a few bad decisions get in the way of a good story”. Opening for the Old 97’s will be Luke Wade, the Texas-based singer-songwriter who is perhaps best known for his recent appearance on NBC’s The Voice. Luke’s soulful and introspective lyrics ensures he has a rabid following wherever he plays. Ayron Jones and the Way will be kicking off the night with his unique brand of Seattle Rock. This three-piece blues rock band infuses the raw energy of punk with inner-city Hip-Hop. Rounding out this year’s musical acts will be Mike O’Neill and Friends and AA Bottom. Both local favorites, Mike is known for his impressive skills with the guitar and AA Bottom is a returning St. Patrick’s Day favorite.
All profits generated from this event benefit Downtown Wichita Falls Development, a nonprofit organization. Their sole focus is on improving the downtown area in order to make it a destination where we can all live, work, and play. Currently, all funding is going to the restoration of the historic 800 Ohio Building, locally known as the Zales Building. This stunning structure housed the very first Zales Jewelry store in 1914. It is DWFD’s goal to return it to its 1920’s architecture and then to house businesses that will draw people downtown.
